On August 22, EPI Construction was proud to join the ribbon cutting and grand opening of Mercaz Middle School, a new campus for Pressman Academy that EPI was honored to be involved with. The event marked an exciting milestone for the school community, bringing together Pressman Academy leadership, MGMT Partners, Berliner Architects, and many others who played a vital role in bringing this vision to life.

Recently, we were pleased to host interns from Blueprint’s summer internship program, offering them valuable insights into commercial construction at the Alliance Ouchi-O’Donovan Gymnasium project in Los Angeles, currently under construction.

March 9, 2025 marks a major milestone for EPI Construction—20 years of growth and success under the leadership of President Gary Blackwell, VP & Snr. Project Manager John Rutter, and VP & Snr. Project Manager Bill Maine.

While EPI Construction has a history spanning over four decades, the past two decades have been defined by the current ownership team who have shown an unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and strong client partnerships.

I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with EPI Construction through my role as a Construction Project Manager at RYDA Ventures Inc. Born in Italy, into a family of general contractors and having grown up around construction, I’ve always had a passion for the industry. Now, as a project manager, I bridge the gap between ownership and the outside world, ensuring that our projects run smoothly while staying within time, financial, and legal constraints.

Although hard bids can appear appealing to building owners and architects seeking cost savings, they often result in negative repercussions in multi-million-dollar commercial contracts. Unfortunately, many contractors engage in predatory bidding, offering bids significantly lower than the actual cost of the project. This “low ball” bidding involves contractors submitting low bids with plans to recoup costs through change orders later.
